OUR BIKES HAVE ARRIVED!!!!!!
Now, it is time for the build. They will only require a partial build - which Tabb could probably fumble through on his own. But to play it safe, we will take them to a bike shop.
Mountain bike vocabulary word of the day!
LBS = Local Bike Shop
Not sure if people use this colloquially, or if we will look like rookies saying "LBS" out loud, but oh well.
Ideally we could do everything bike related through Mitch's store, but unfortunately, we live in St. Louis, so we need to find a local bike shop for our servicing needs.
There are a couple of shop names I've seen floating around town. One is Big Shark. Big Shark has multiple locations St. Louis. They are also the only shop that sells Santa Cruz bikes, which makes them the St. Louis shop most similar to Mitch's. I like Big Shark because one of the locations is close to our house, they keep their website up to date, and they hold/sponsor frequent events in St. Louis (including the Run for Chocolate 5k we did in February!).
In Googling for St. Louis bike shops, I found plenty of resources for finding trails to explore in the area. There are local MTB organizations: "SLAMB" - St. Louis Area Mountain Bikers and "GORC" - Gateway Off-Road Cyclists. Both websites are great resources for St. Louis mountain bike trails. And when we want to go the Ozarks, we can use this trip planner to find the perfect ride for our desired skill level and trip length. I don't think we will do a group ride anytime soon, but it could be nice to ride with people more experienced and familiar with the area. Being active in the biking community would helps us learn where we like to ride, and what additional bike supplies and accessories we might want to purchase (if we see how handy they are for others!).
We decided we would take our bikes to Big Shark for the build. They are getting built August 18th - conveniently the day Tabb moves back to St. Louis!!! We are looking to do our first ride on the 19th!
Until then, I will continue to get my cycling fix indoors (picture of the sweet WashU spin class set-up below). Joss and I are starting our gym regiment this Monday. Looking forward to fitness!!!
This video touches on some of our mountain biking discoveries, thoughts, and feelings. I'm glad I found this after we started this journey, because the truth behind some of the steps is what made it so funny. The video itself gets old/goes on too long... but I will leave it here for amusement!
My real-time reactions to the relatable steps:
(Step) 1. Check! $$$
